Diabetes mellitus and dislipidemia

In experiments on rats with the model of streptozotocine diabetes, it has been shown a normalizing influence of Enterosgel preparation on the indexes of lipid profile, parameters of prooxidant-antioxidant homeostasis in liver tissue, and its histological structure (V.V. Chernishova et al, 2009). Decrease of concentrations of glycosylated hemoglobin, total cholesterol, triglycerides, lipoproteins of low and high density, urea and lipid hydroperoxides along with simultaneous decrease of concentration of reduced glutathione, catalase, superoxidedismutase, cytochromoxidase, and succinatedehydrogenase activity were found significant compared to control group.

Certain positive shifts in lipidogramme were registered also in rats with the most simply model of alimentary cholesterolosis, as well as some decrease of activity of blood plasma AlAT and alkaline phosphatase, compared with animals from control group (О.S. Pokotilo et al., 2009). It's interestingly to note that also, as in case with renal insufficiency, effect of Enterosgel could not be explained by direct sorption of certain metabolites, because capacity of enterosorbent by such compounds as triglycerides, cholesterol, urea etc, was evidently insufficient. However, the results obtained in experiment finely correlated with clinical data for Enterosgel use at diabetes and dislipidemia. For example, in the works of М.N. Dolzhenko et al. (2005, 2009а, 2009б) it has been shown that in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes complicated with ischemic heart disease, administration of Enterosgel results in the decrease of lipoproteins of low density at average by 20% along with simultaneous increase of lipoproteins of high density by 39%, significant (compared to control group) decrease of transaminase activity, and fall of serum concentration of C-reactive protein – the most important marker of systemic inflammatory reaction. In patients with diabetes with marked symptoms of non-alcoholic steatohepatosis who received Enterosgel, total cholesterol of blood plasma decreased from 8.051.15 to 6.451.18, but remained unchanged in control group. In patients with diabetes complicated with acute coronary syndrome, administration of Enterosgel along with improvement of biochemical indexes caused positive influence on systolic and diastolic function of left ventricle, and led to the decrease of ventricular extrasystolia. In the study of E.А. Dotsenko and T.F. Zhiznevskaya (1999), Enterosgel was administered for 1 month by 15 g at night or by 15 g twice per day to 48 patients with hypercholesterolemia (> 6.5 mmole/l), hypertriglyceridemia (> 4 mmole/l), or with the level of high density cholesterol lower than 0.7 mmole/l. The scheme with double administration of the preparation was found to be more effective and led to decrease of total cholesterol at average by 9%, triglycerides - by 47%, index of atherogenecity – by 8.1%. In parallel, in control group (40 patients), concentration of triglycerides increased at average by 3%.
